The Waste Free Schools Program
for Santa Cruz County is an innovative, collaborative,
award-winning program which assists Santa Cruz County
schools in institutionalizing on-campus recycling,
composting and reducing / reusing programs while instilling
in the students and school staff a sense of environmental
stewardship.
The program is a collaboration of Ecology
Action, Life
Lab Science Program and
the Santa
Cruz County Office of Education.
Teacher leaders from school sites work with
teachers, students and community members to implement
recycling and composting projects that reduce the overall
waste stream while providing academic opportunities that connect environmental
education with the academic core curriculum.
