Due to current budget deficits, the County of Santa Cruz has suspended funding for the Home Composting Program.  County sponsored workshops, Master Composter trainings, and information booths will no longer be offered.

As a convenience to the public, composting workshops and classes offered by other entities will be posted on this site as they are known. The County of Santa Cruz makes no claims, guarantees or endorsements regarding any events listed here.

TimeBank Santa Cruz presents a Composting Workshop
Date: Saturday, August 8, 2015 – 10:30 AM to Noon

Composting Workshop

Topics covered will include: What is composting? Why compost? What makes composting happen? Basic recipe for compost. What should and should not be composted. Types of bins. Hot vs. cold composting. Using compost. Basic worm composting. The workshop will be helpful to people new to composting as well as those already composting who have questions or problems.

Participants who are customers of GreenWaste Recovery will be eligible to receive their choice of either an Earth Machine composter or Can-O-Worms worm bin after successful completion of the workshop.

The workshop is free to TimeBank members and $10 for non-members. Pre-registration required. Space is limited. To register, use the TimeBank’s PayPal Donate Button ( to pay the fee. Upon receipt, you’ll be sent the workshop location.

Workshop leader Sylvia Patience completed the Master Composter training in 2010, the last year it was offered in Santa Cruz County. She presents workshops at Earth Day and other events, as well as offering compost help to other TimeBank members.
