Master Composter Program

What is a Master Composter?

A  Master Composter is a volunteer, trained to teach others  about composting.  Master Composters have completed  the Master Composter Training Program, a two month program  covering:

  •  Compost science
  • Backyard and worm composting
  • Horticultural Uses of Compost
  • Outreach and presentation skills
  • County of Santa Cruz solid waste reduction goals

Master Composters are the volunteer backbone of Santa Cruz County’s Home Composting  Program. Master  Composters teach people the basics of home composting and  inspire Santa Cruz County residents to recycle their yard  and kitchen waste at home, work, and school through composting information booths and workshops.   We encourage adults of all ages, abilities and ethnic groups to apply!

Classes meet on seven weekday nights, plus five Saturday field trips in February and March. The 2009 Master Composter Training Program application and course agenda wil be posted in November of 2008.
